Jokowi Says IKN Will Become A Showcase Of Indonesia's Transformation
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) will be a "showcase" or a place to show off the transformation of Indonesian civilization.
Jokowi in the event "Capital City of Nusantara: A New History of a New Civilization" said as many as 80 percent of IKN's energy sources will rely on new and renewable energy, and 80 percent of public transportation in the Nusantara will be self-driving and driverless.
“We respect pedestrians and those who like to ride bicycles. The mileage is in 10 minutes. This is a showcase for Indonesia's transformation, a showcase for changing Indonesian civilization," Jokowi said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 18.
Jokowi explained that IKN would become a forest-based smart city. The majority of IKN land or 70 percent is green area.
The government has prepared a nursery center in IKN with an area of 16 hectares, and a reservoir of seven hectares, so that IKN has a tropical rainforest area.
"This is what is used to make Kalimantan green, so all people will remember me from (Faculty of) Forestry," said Jokowi again.
Regarding the work culture at IKN, Jokowi explained that the government wants to build a productive work system. Government services for the community will rely on the application.
“Paperless birth certificate and marriage certificate. So Nusantara is Indonesia's future, it can be realized with joint efforts," said Jokowi.

Jokowi stated that the relocation of the capital city from DKI Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) would not only be the transfer of a ministry building or the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Palace, but would create a new work culture and mindset.
Jokowi believes that the Indonesian people will be able to celebrate the 79th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence in the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) on August 17, 2024.
"With our joint efforts, with the spirit of gotong royong, I believe 17 August 2024 we can celebrate together in Nusantara," said President Jokowi.
