Visiting DPD RI In Jakarta, Russian Federation Discusses Vladimir Putin's Plan To Attend The G20 Summit Bali

JAKARTA - The Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia received a visit from a delegation from the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. They discussed the planned arrival of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 Summit, Bali, Indonesia.

Deputy Chairman of DPD Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin revealed the contents of the meeting. According to her, the Chair of the Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, had said that her party could not confirm Putin's presence at the G20 Summit which will take place on November 15-16.

"She (Valentina Matvienko, ed) told about her meeting with President Putin, before coming to Indonesia. In their country, there are quite serious problems. Then, Ms. Matvienko asked whether she should cancel her departure? However, President Putin emphasized, Ms. Matvienko must go to Indonesia. Indonesia is important for Russia," said Sultan in a press statement, quoted Thursday, October 6.

The meeting between the DPD RI and the Russian Federation took place at Teuku Umar Street Number 1, Menteng, Jakarta, Wednesday, October 5 yesterday.

Valentina Matvienko was welcomed by the Chair of the DPD RI La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti and the Chair of the DPD for the 2017-2019 period Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO), as well as a number of other Indonesian senators.

Meanwhile, Matvienko was accompanied by Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov as Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Chief of Staff of the Federation Council Gennady Golov, and other officials from the Federation Council, State Duma, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Russian Embassy in Jakarta.

Sultan said that Russia's bilateral visit is meaningful for Indonesia's progress. According to him, this visit cannot be separated from Indonesia's history of closeness with Moscow.

"The chairman of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation is present, he is an important person. From the state structure, he is the number 3 person in his country. However, in the practice of power in Russia, he is the second influential person, after President Putin," said Sultan.

During the meeting, DPD RI and the Russian Federation also discussed global economic conditions, the international political situation, and peacekeeping missions.

"What is the policy or secret of the Russian Parliament, to have food and energy security, which is so good. In fact, they are ready to be embargoed by other countries. In our opinion, that is a valuable point (for Indonesia)," said Sultan.

During the meeting, Sultan admitted that the Russian Federation invited the DPD RI to be present in his country to continue the post-bilateral meeting.

"This is a very strong country. There are so many cross-sectoral cooperations that Russia offers," said Sultan.
