Meta Turns Off the Bulletin Platform on Facebook Starting Early Next Year, Here's Why

JAKARTA - Meta platform Inc. shutting down the Bulletin service, an off-platform newsletter product launched last summer for a select few creators.

This service allows readers to subscribe to newsletters from contributors such as Malcolm Gladwell, Tan France, and Malala Yousafzai. However, there is also some content available for free.

“The Bulletin has allowed us to learn about the relationship between Creators and their audience and how to better support them in building their community on Facebook,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch.

A Meta spokesperson added that even though the Bulletin product itself is coming to an end, the company will remain committed to supporting the success and growth of creators across its various platforms.

There is no exact date yet on when the Newsletter will be shutting down, however, Meta says that the newsletter writers will continue to earn subscription revenue until the platform closes in early 2023.

Authors also have access to the email addresses of all their subscribers, so they can notify their subscribers if the author chooses to move his newsletter to another site.

This Meta newsletter platform was released in June last year. At the time of its launch, Facebook said it did not take any revenue from the author. This is a form of support to the authors and publishers.

Through this platform, posts will be uploaded directly to the website, sent to the customer's email, or shared via Facebook.

Because the Bulletin is a website, the posts contained in it can be viewed outside the Facebook app or the Bulletin platform. For example, you can view a Bulletin post via a Google search or a link shared on Twitter or other social media platforms.
