MotoGP Aims For India To Be The Host, Apparently This Is The Reason
JAKARTA - Dorna Sports continues to explore the possibility of expanding MotoGP racing. The Asian market is being explored again.
This time, Dorna is looking for a gap to cooperate in order to hold a MotoGP race in India.
Dorna CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, has visited India. He met with potential promoter Fairstreet Sports in New Delhi, the target city.
"India is a very large country and market, and one that is important for the two-wheel industry and MotoGP as a sport," Carmelo said in a written statement on the MotoGP official website.
"This championship has a huge fan base and being able to host a MotoGP event in India will be a great spectacle for our fans and at the same time allow us to develop the sport in this region."
Reportedly, the Dorna Sports delegation has also visited Lucknow, the area where the MotoGP circuit will be built.
During their visit, they met with Uttar Prades Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath and Industry Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi.
"Our government will provide the necessary support to make this event a huge success," the Indian side said in a statement.
