Regarding The Take Over Of Riau Islands And Natuna Airspace, Jokowi Is Considered Brave In Making Policy

JAKARTA - Public policy observer at Pelita Harapan University, Emrus Sihombing, believes that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is brave in making policies. According to him, this attitude can make Jokowi a role model.

He explained that Jokowi's bold policies were reflected in signing the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on the Ratification of the Indonesian and Singapore Flight Information Region (FIR) Agreements regarding the takeover of the Riau Islands (Kepri) and Natuna airspace.

"From its success, I think it can be used as a role model," he said in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Sunday, September 11.

In fact, he said, the day before before before in front of economists, Jokowi dared to risk if Indonesia had to lose to the World Trade Organization (WTO) due to the policy of banning nickel exports.

According to him, Jokowi also carried out quite a bold policy when he acquired PT Freeport in the majority. This policy, said Emrus, brings benefits to Indonesia.

However, he continued, these achievements were not perfect because they still had 2 years of leadership.

Therefore, in the last 2 years, Emrus has encouraged the ministers to complete their duties well.

According to Emrus, if the work is completed properly by the President and ministers, President Jokowi can become a role model for the next leaders.

"However, if there are shortcomings here and there, those who are flicked are the ministers who are not performing," he said.

Emrus acknowledged President Jokowi's persistence in working for the welfare of the Indonesian people. However, this persistence will not go well if there is no full support from his assistants, in this case the ministers and regional heads.
