3 Deflation Triggers In Riau Islands
JAKARTA - BPS noted that there were three indexes of expenditure groups that triggered deflation in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri) of 0.50 percent in August 2022 or greater than August 2021 of 0.42 percent.
"From the two cities of the consumer price index (CPI) in Riau Islands, it was recorded that Batam City experienced a deflation of 0.50 percent and Tanjungpinang City experienced a deflation of 0.54 percent," said Head of the Riau Islands BPS Darwis Sitorus as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, September 3.
He explained that the three indexes of expenditure groups that triggered deflation in the Riau Islands and showed a decline in prices, namely the food, beverage, and tobacco group fell by 2.04 percent, the clothing and footwear group fell by 0.40 percent, and the transportation group decreased by 0.40 percent. 0.40 percent.
He mentioned several commodities that had a dominant share/contribution to deflation, including red chilies at 0.24 percent, cooking oil at 0.23 percent, cayenne pepper at 0.08 percent, air transportation at 0.08 percent, and rice at 0.08 percent. 0.03 percent.

Meanwhile, commodities that have a dominant share/contribution to inflation include house rent by 0.04 percent, broiler eggs by 0.04 percent, kindergarten by 0.03 percent, gasoline by 0.02 percent, and elementary schools. by 0.02 percent.
"Inflation occurred because there was a decline in the CPI from 111.74 in July 2022 to 111.18 in August 2022," he said.
Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the August 2022 calendar year was 3.86 percent, higher than the inflation for the August 2021 calendar year of 0.20 percent.
BPS Kepri also noted that of the 24 CPI cities in Sumatra, all cities experienced deflation in August 2022. The highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan City at 1.65 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Sibolga City at 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, Tanjungpinang City and Batam City were ranked 15th and 17th out of 24 cities experiencing deflation in Sumatra.
