Says Weight Is Not A Problem, UFC Star Crystal Demopoulos Is Even Slammed As Paper By A 226 Kg Sumo Wrestler
JAKARTA - UFC lightweight fighter, Crystal Demopoulos is trying a new challenge by facing a champion sumo wrestler. Weighing 499 pounds or 226 kg, this sumo wrestler easily threw Demopoulos' body like paper and made him write a funny confession on Instagram.
Quoted from the Daily Star, Wednesday, Demopoulos is a 33-year-old MMA fighter who is better known for his cunning in using tricks. That led to four of his eight professional victories.
However, when choosing to turn from the octagon to the dohyo which is a sumo arena, Demopoulos's tricks mean nothing. He lost heavily in the clash last week.
In a short video he posted to his Instagram page, 'Lil Monster' - as he is known - takes on sumo champion Ramy Elgazar in the circle arena.
However, he quickly realized that at this meeting his MMA skills would not be able to match Elgazar's strength. Moreover, the sumo wrestler weighs a staggering 226 kg.
The footage shows Demopoulos confronting a smiling Egyptian wrestler urging him to come forward to fight. At this moment, Demopoulos tried to use a few tricks before attempting to nimbly take down the giant.
But his tactics were wrong because Elgazar didn't budge at all. The sumo wrestler instead effortlessly sent Demopoulos into the air before slamming him to the side with ease.
Seeing the moment when he was slammed, the fighter actually saw the funny side and wrote a description in the video.
“SUMOO. 'Size doesn't matter' the famous last words. I'm no match for @ramyelgazar1," wrote Demopoulos.
In response, fans and fellow fighters took to the comments to voice their excitement, praise also goes to Demopoulos for even trying to do a takedown.
“The amount of respect you get even for trying to go to sumo is unspeakable,” said the fan.
Despite losing, the UFC champion himself did not feel discouraged. At UFC Demopoulos was quite proud because he had an overall record of 8-4, where he won his last match by split decision over Jinh Yu Frey.
