Attorney General: I Will Use An Iron Fist To Act Firmly If Someone Is Playing With Things
JAKARTA - Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin asserted that he will use an "iron fist" to uphold integrity and act decisively if there are prosecutors who play around in law enforcement.
“I will use an 'iron fist' to act decisively if someone messes with law enforcement and handling cases. Please stop or I will dismiss you," said Burhanuddin in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 29.
The Attorney General reminded the ranks to maintain the dignity of the prosecutor's office and not to injure or tarnish the public's trust.
“All areas of the prosecutor's office are very important. However, how do we (the prosecutor's office) respond to the people's wishes in law enforcement and the barometer of handling corruption cases, if we do nothing?” he continued.
Burhanuddin invites all levels of the prosecutor's office to promote effective, efficient, and fast law enforcement in responding to all reports and complaints from the public.
Burhanuddin emphasized that the prosecutor's office did not have a specific target in taking action against corruption.
However, the Attorney General assessed that there was a gap in the performance of corruption eradication between the center, specifically at the Attorney General's Office and the eradication of corruption in the regions, specifically at the high prosecutor's office, the state attorney's office, and the branch of the state attorney's office.
"I think there is still a gap in the performance of corruption eradication between the center and the regions," said Burhanuddin.
The statement was conveyed in a briefing activity carried out at the West Sumatra High Prosecutor's Hall.
The Attorney General conveyed that his arrival in West Sumatra was to provide motivation and encouragement to all levels to work harder and to invite hand in hand to be present in the midst of society in law enforcement.
“Nevertheless, humanist programs such as the application of restorative justice remain our priority so that law enforcement related to the lives of many people is still considered. People have started to feel comfortable with these programs. Let's improve it, do it sincerely for the community and institutions," said Burhanuddin.
