COVID-19 Resurges In South Korea: New Infection Cases Reach 99,000, Triggered By Omicron Subvariant
JAKARTA - Korea's new COVID-19 cases bounced back to nearly 100,000 on Tuesday, as the Omicron subvariant has spread rapidly amid a new wave of Coronavirus.
The country reported 99,327 new COVID-19 infections, including 353 cases from overseas, bringing the total caseload to 19,346,764, the Korea Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said, according to the Korea Times on July 26.
Tuesday's tally more than doubled the previous day's 35,883 and the largest number since 111,291 was reported on April 20.
South Korea has seen a daily spike in cases as the rapid spread of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant kicks in. The number of infections has recovered to five digits since the start of this month, after mostly being in the four digits in June.
Previously, Ginseng Country suffered its worst Omicron outbreak earlier this year, which sent daily cases to a peak of more than 620,000 in mid-March.

On Tuesday, South Korea the number of deaths from COVID-19 in South Korea increased by 17 people, bringing the total death toll from the Coronavirus in the country to 24,907. Meanwhile, the number of critically ill patients due to the Coronavirus reached 168, up 24 from the previous day.
