Regional Police Prevent Smuggling Of 47 Kg Meth At The Border, Perpetrators Threatened With Death Penalty
TARAKAN - The North Kalimantan Regional Police managed to thwart the smuggling of 47 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine at the Indonesia-Malaysia border in Nunukan, North Kalimantan Province by securing three suspects in the case.
North Kalimantan Police Chief, Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya in Tanjung Selor, Bulungan Regency, Thursday, July 21, named the three perpetrators, initials IH (32), ND (38), and AA (44).
The local police disclosed cases of methamphetamine trafficking by forming a joint team led by the Director of Criminal Investigation at the North Kalimantan Poice, Grand Commissioner Hendy F. Kurniawan with the Head of Profession and Security Division, Grand Commissioner Teguh Triwantoro, Nunukan Police Chief Grand Commissioner Adjutant Ricky Hadiyanto, as well as the East Sebatik Police at Patok 3 Border Malaysia, Aji Kuning Village, Central Sebatik District, Nunukan Regency, Wednesday, July 20.
Suspect IH, a resident of Nunukan, has the role of arranging the courier's journey and ensuring that the narcotics package reaches its destination, ND, an Indonesian citizen who works as a farmer in Tawau, acts as a courier who carries packages from Tawau to Bambangan, Nunukan, while AA, a resident of Tarakan and works as a fisherman, acts as couriers carrying narcotics packages from Nunukan to Pare-Pare continued to Palu by using the Pelni ship.
He explained that IH and ND received an offer from a person with the initials EZ, a Malaysian resident in Tawau to deliver a package that was both known to contain narcotics to be brought in from Tawau to Bambangan Sebatik, Nunukan, and continued to Palu, Central Sulawesi.

Based on the chronology of arrests, ND was arrested shortly after entering Indonesian territory through the traditional Indonesia-Malaysia cross-border route at the Point 3 of the Indonesia-Malaysia border.
The perpetrator entered the territory of Indonesia with five sacks of luggage recognized as basic necessities.
"However, after an examination, it was found that the sack contained class one narcotics type methamphetamine, which was packaged in a packet of Guan Yin Wang tea," said Daniel as quoted by Antara.
The suspects are suspected of violating Article 112 paragraph 2 junto Article 132 paragraph 2 sub-article 114 paragraph 2 junto Article 132 paragraph 2 of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics with the threat of a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of death.
