578 Thousand Cows Have Been Vaccinated Against FMD
JAKARTA - The Task Force for Handling Foot and Mouth Diseases (FMD) reported that 578,643 cows had received the FMD vaccine, with 408,888 cattle confirmed to have contracted the disease.
Based on data quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 20, it was reported that FMD cases were spread in 264 regencies/cities in 22 provinces in the country. As of July 20, 2022, 408,888 farm animals have been confirmed to be infected with FMD.
The number is divided into 394,343 cows, 10,303 buffalo, 1,343 sheep, 2,852 goats and 47 pigs.
There was 168,910 livestock that had recovered status and 232,611 animals that had not yet recovered from the disease caused by the virus. There was also 2,859 livestock that died due to FMD, which was dominated by 2,776 cows.
So far, only FMD vaccination efforts have been carried out on cows.
FMD appeared in East Java which was confirmed on May 5, 2022, and can be prevented in several ways such as limiting animal movement, monitoring traffic and implementing surveillance, and prohibiting the entry of livestock from other areas. Strict quarantine is also possible.

Regarding the FMD vaccine, the government is currently directing the production of the vaccine domestically.
"The government is working on developing the vaccine while providing FMD vaccines from abroad that match the viral serotypes currently circulating in the country", said the Coordinator of the FMD Task Force Expert Team, Wiku Adisasmito at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 19.
According to him, the production capability of the domestic FMD vaccine will be based on the FMD virus serotype circulating in Indonesia.
