Game Studio Bandai Namco Becomes Cyber Attack Victim, Hackers Try To Access Company Confidential Information

JAKARTA - Earlier this week, Bandai Namco was reportedly the victim of a cyberattack by hackers trying to access confidential company information.

When the news broke, the company had yet to comment. But now, the Elden Ring publishing company confirmed the attack.

"On July 3, 2022, Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. confirmed that they experienced unauthorized access by third parties to the internal systems of several Group companies in the Asian region (excluding Japan)," the company said, quoted from Engadget.

At the time, the company said it was investigating the attack although it noted the possibility that "customer information related to the Toys and Hobbies Business in the Asia region (excluding Japan)" was on the servers and PCs that the hackers compromised.

To date, it is not clear when Bandai Namco discovered the violation and how long the problem will be resolved.

The company said that it will immediately disclose the findings of the appropriate investigation, and also apologize for any complications or problems this incident has caused.

Hackers have targeted a number of game companies in recent years. One of the victims was studio Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red was hit by a ransomware attack early last year.

Hackers have also infiltrated EA and Capcom's systems in recent years.
