Millennials Are Becoming More Investment Literate, The Number Of Young BRI Investors Is The Most In The Capital Market

JAKARTA – PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk. (BRI) reported that the increasing number of millennials who made financial investments brought its own benefits to the company's business.

BRI's Director of Consumer Business, Handayani, explained that based on a report from PT Kustodian Sentral Efek Indonesia (KSEI), until April 2022 there were around 8.62 million capital market investors in Indonesia.

That number is up more than 15 percent compared to that recorded until the end of December 2021.

Of the 8.62 million investors, 1.5 million invest in stocks with a market capitalization of more than IDR 100 trillion.

As for the 1.5 million investors, the most were in BRI, which reached 347,000 investors

"This condition is an interesting trend because millennials increasingly see the capital market as a place to learn more about investment", he said in an official statement on Wednesday, July 6.

According to Handayani, as a whole, around 60 percent of millennial investors have participated in the capital market.

For this reason, he encourages the public to have sufficient literacy, especially regarding capital market instruments.

"The main thing is to understand the financial goals of the investments made, including how to choose the right product, basic cash flow needs, emergency funds, risk management, as well as long-term financial goals such as retirement plans to estate planning", he said.

Handayani added, that knowledge of each other's financial condition is also needed through financial check-ups, as well as checking the risk profile of the instrument to be addressed.

“After understanding all the information, investors can choose products in the capital market that match the risk profile. Equally important, investors must also diversify,” he stressed.
