Starring Yayan Ruhian, Mat Kilau The Movie Sets The Highest Sales Record

JAKARTA - The Malaysian action film directed by Syamsul Yusof entitled Mat Kilau managed to earn 7.3 million Malaysian ringgit (RM) or around IDR 24.81 billion from ticket sales in a day on Saturday, July 2.

Thus, according to Syamsul, the film Mat Kilau Awakening Pahlawan, which began showing in cinemas in Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei since June 23, 2022, has already pocketed ticket sales of RM39.2 million or equivalent to IDR 133.20 billion.

This achievement is a new historical record for the film industry in Malaysia. According to the Malaysian National Film Progress Agency (Finas), the 2018 horror film Munafik 2, which was also directed by Syamsul Yusof, was previously at the top of ticket sales, reaching RM37.74 or equivalent to IDR 128.241 billion.

Thus the film Mat Kilau has shifted the top position of the film Munafik 2 in the Top 50 Feature Films issued by Finas.

Quoted from ANTARA, Mat Kilau is a film with the genre of action, biography, drama, with a duration of one hour and 58 minutes. The film, directed by Syamsul Yusof, stars Adi Putra as Mat Kilau, Beto Kusyairy as Wahid, Fattah Amin as Awang, Johan As'ari as Yasin, and Indonesian action actor Yayan Ruhian who plays the antagonist Toga.

The film tells the story of the rise of Malay warriors to fight the British invaders who occupied Pahang in the 1880s, it also tells how the British seized their land and wealth for their own benefit and disturbed the religion and customs of the Malays.
