JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani was noted to be present at the launch of Merdeka Learning episode 21 together with Minister of Education Nadiem Makarim. On this occasion, the Minister of Finance shared his experiences as an economist and also state treasurer in front of relevant officials and campus leaders in Indonesia (chancellor).
She said the economic sector is closely related to the world of education. In fact, education is the basic capital that is so important to achieve prosperity.
“Investing in education is a very important investment. Investment in this field is the best return of all investments in the world," she said in her opening speech, quoted on Tuesday, June 28.
According to the Minister of Finance, this strategic position has forced universities in Indonesia to think about how to improve national education. It was also revealed that financial independence is an essential indicator to be able to improve the quality of a college so that it can become a world-class university.
"I remember very well that President Jokowi had a high concern for the quality and activities of higher education institutions to further improve the quality of Indonesia's human resources. This is evidenced by the perpetual budget of universities that are present through Presidential Decree No. 111 of 2021," she said.

In this regard, the former IMF boss also said that the design of the funding allocation that had been designed by the government could increase collaboration and innovation as well as university creativity.
The Minister of Finance also advised that the managers of the education endowment fund can maintain the mandate that has been entrusted to them properly.
"How to become a world class university, you can get a ranking that is also good, but it must also be useful for our people and country and even for just and civilized humanity, that means for the whole world," said the Minister of Finance.
In closing, he stated his commitment to continue to support the improvement of the quality of education in Indonesia.
