Good News! Government Provides Compensation For Farmers Whose Animals Die Affected By FMD

JAKARTA – The government through the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, plans to provide compensation to farmers whose animals die due to Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

According to him, the scheme for disbursement of funds is still being studied and the local government can participate in assisting.

"In supporting the handling of this FMD, the government has decided to use the APBN, APBD, and other funding sources, especially to implement the plan to provide compensation for farmers (especially small scale), whose livestock died from FMD or were subjected to forced slaughter", he said in a press statement today on Monday, June 20.

According to Airlangga, the government is still trying to finalize regulations related to FMD so that they are finalized and implemented to prevent the spread of this disease outbreak.

"Currently, the government's efforts are to immediately procure and distribute vaccines in large quantities and immediately vaccinate livestock so that herd immunity can be achieved immediately", he said.

Not only that, but Airlangga also revealed that the first FMD vaccination was carried out on June 14, 2022, in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java.

Furthermore, basic vaccinations will be encouraged, namely 2 vaccinations with a distance of 1 month, as well as booster vaccines every 6 months. To carry out the Vaccination Program, approximately 1,872 medical personnel and 4,421 paramedics will be carried out.

“The government is finalizing the purchase of 3 million doses of vaccine so that it can be immediately distributed and vaccinated on priority livestock. Meanwhile, to meet the need for 28 million doses by the end of 2022, one of them will work with private importers with the number of vaccines that are needed", Airlangga concluded.
