5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Trenggalek, BMKG: No Damage Reports Yet
JAKARTA - The Coordinator for Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono said his party had not received any reports of damage as a result of an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 in Trenggalek, East Java, Sunday 12 June.
"There have been no reports of damage as a result of the earthquake south of East Java this morning," Daryono said through a BMKG press release quoted by Antara.
His party also said that the results of BMKG monitoring had not shown any aftershocks. Daryono said the epicenter of this earthquake was close to the strong earthquakes on the island of Java that were destructive in 1867, 1896, 1937, and 1962.
Previously, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 occurred in Trenggalek, which is the southern region of East Java, Sunday morning at 06.55 western Indonesia time. The earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 8.60° South Latitude - 111.41° East Longitude, precisely at sea at a distance of 23 KM to the south of Munjungan, Trenggalek Regency, with a depth of 103 KM.

The earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type of earthquake due to rock deformation activity in the Indo-Australian Plate which was subducted under Java Island in the Benioff Zone. "Experts usually call it an earthquake in a slab or an intraslab earthquake," he said.
The earthquake was felt in East Java and parts of Yogyakarta and Central Java, namely in the areas of Kulon Progo, Bantul, Wonogiri, Gunungkidul, Pacitan, Cilacap, Karangkates, Ponorogo, Nganjuk, Blitar, Trenggalek, Klaten and Karanganyar with an intensity scale of II-III MMI, meaning that the vibration is felt real in the house, the vibration feels as if a truck is passing.
Meanwhile, in Lumajang, Madiun, and Kepanjen (Malang Regency) it was felt on the MMI intensity scale II or vibrations were felt by several people, and light objects that were hung swayed.
