Crowded Protests Against Babiambo Restaurant, West Sumatra NasDem Legislator: Please Change Name But Not Nasi Padang

JAKARTA - The Nasi Padang restaurant in the Kelapa Gading area, North Jakarta, was protested by various groups, especially members of the DPR from West Sumatra.

The reason is, the restaurant that serves Minang specialties serves pork-based dishes. In fact, the name of the culinary business was also given the name Babiambo.

Responding to the emergence of the non-halal Padang rice restaurant, member of the House of Representatives from the NasDem Faction Lisda Hendrajoni assessed that all Minang figures would definitely criticize the existence of this culinary business.

Because, said Lisda, Minang people uphold the traditional philosophy of Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah, which is the life philosophy of the Minangkabau people.

"This Minang custom is Basandi Syarak Syarak Basandi Kitabullah, which makes Islamic teachings the only basis and/or guidelines for behavior patterns in life. So it will definitely provoke the anger of the Minang people," said Lisda when contacted by VOI, Friday, June 10.

Moreover, the restaurant is considered very eccentric with the naming 'Babiambo'.

"Wow. Everything must be adapted to local wisdom itself. Although there are indeed Minang people outside, but for Minang itself, non-Muslims are not Minang people anymore," said the legislator of the NasDem for West Sumatra I Dapil.

Lisda said Padang food or restaurant or rice should be 'Halalan Thayyiban'. That said Lisda, is a basic assumption of Islamic ethics that will affect the behavior of a Muslim.

"As the meaning of halalan thayyiban is something that is lawful and good," he said.

Even if, for example, the name of the restaurant is changed but it still sells processed menus like the Padang rice restaurant, Lisda thinks that this is also not allowed.

"You can't do it, it's the same as Muslims trading pork, it's the same as that. So everything (Padang restaurants, ed) is halal. Don't be, don't be like that," said Lisda.

"If Minang has to be halal, if you want to change something else, please, but that means it's not Padang rice," he said.
