Haze From Peat Fires Still Covers Parts Of Mukomuko

MUKOMUKO - Smog from peatland fires still covers some areas in Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu. As a result, vehicle users' visibility is short.

"The smog comes from peatland fires in the residential unit (SP) VII of Rawa Mulya Village", said Acting Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of Mukomuko, Ramdani, quoted by Antara, Friday, June 10.

Although some areas of this area have been raining for the last few days, it has not immediately extinguished the fires that have burned the peatlands in this area.

According to him, it is possible that the fire that burns the peatlands in this area can only be extinguished if it rains continuously for one week.

"If there is a peatland fire, it is difficult to extinguish it, especially if the peat land in the area is included in it", he said.

Ramdani hopes that rain will return to this area to free this area from the smog.

In addition, he appealed to residents in this area not to clear peatlands for oil palm plantations by burning them.

Mukomuko City Head, Ali Nasri, said that his party, together with the police, have been making efforts to extinguish peatlands in this area.

According to him, it is not easy to extinguish the peatland fire, especially since this peat land is included in the forest so fire suppression is done manually.

"Fire engines cannot enter the location, so we use water machines to extinguish the peatland fires", he said.

In addition, Ali said that his party had asked the people who own the peatlands to extinguish the fires on the land.

Currently, the owner of the peat land is serious about extinguishing the peat fire using a water machine.
