Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani Great Grandfather Of Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Entered In Arabic Dictionary
JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin recalled Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani's example in studying and becoming a recognized figure in the world, while attending Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani's 129th Haul at Tanara Islamic Boarding School, Banten.
"One thing that we should set as an example is his passion for studying. From here, this village, he was born about 50 meters from here, on the right, there is a sign that his name is Maulid Nawawi, in memory, in front of the Great Mosque of Tanara," said Vice President in his remarks which was witnessed virtually in Jakarta, Friday 27 May.
The vice president said that during difficult times studying, based on the Antara report, Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani, who was his great-grandfather, was able to study in Makkah. His knowledge is recognized not only in the country, but also in the world and the Middle East.
The Vice President said that in Saudi Arabia Sheikh Nawawi is known as the Leader of the Ulama. In his books printed in Egypt, Sheikh Nawawi is referred to as the great scholar of the 14 hijriah.
"And there are many other names like that," said the Vice President.
In fact, said the Vice President, the name of Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani was included in al-Munjid's largest Arabic dictionary, which was written by a Christian from Egypt named Louis Ma'luf.
The vice president said Sheikh Nawawi and Indonesia's first President Soekarno were the two Indonesians whose names were included in the dictionary.
Bung Karno in the dictionary is called a political figure who liberated Indonesia from the Dutch. Meanwhile, Syekh Nawawi is referred to as a fakih of the Shafii school, an expert on Sufism and a person who excels in the field of interpretation.
"He also mentioned many of his essays. So his knowledge is indeed recognized in the world, not only in Indonesia," he explained.
The vice president said that his great-grandfather's enthusiasm for compiling books was extraordinary, covering matters of faith, concerning fiqh, and the following interpretations. The vice president emphasized that Sheikh Nawawi would never forget his people.
"He always never forgot his nation. He said, 'I wrote this for the children of my nation'. So he did indeed make an essay that was also very easy to read, so that it became a reference in Islamic boarding schools, in Indonesia, in Malaysia. , everywhere, even in Egypt."
