This UFC Legend Says McGregor Still Has Weaknesses: He Advises The Notorius To Look For A Teacher, Not A Coach
JAKARTA - Former UFC champion Henry Cejudo says Conor McGregor will be hurt if he continues to fight people who are above his current level.
Cejudo advised McGregor to fight Tony Ferguson first instead of fighting fighters like Charles Oliveira or Kamaru Usman.
McGregor continues to be linked with a rematch against Dustin Poirier, his main UFC rival. However, in the two previous fights, The Notorious always lost to Poirier.
It was this defeat that made Cejudo believe that McGregor couldn't go straight into elite-level fights and hope to come out on top.
"I think the fight is winnable for Conor," Cejudo said of the suggestion against Ferguson, speaking on the podcast 'The Triple C & Schmo Show' quoted by Marca, Friday, May 26.
McGregor is a two-time UFC champion and he first won the lightweight title in 2016 when he defeated Eddie Alvarez, the former Bellator lightweight champion. His overall record in the UFC is 22-6-0.
Cejudo still feels that, despite his past successes, there are areas of his struggle that the Irish fighter must overcome if he is to reach the top again in the near future.
"This is crazy, because of the many shortcomings he has," Cejudo continued.
“As good as he was in the past, there are still many flaws that he has that he still hasn't fixed."
"He needs to find a teacher who can really teach him. Not a coach, but a teacher," he concluded.
