JAKARTA - The Governor of DKI Jakarta opened a series of celebrations for the 495th anniversary of the City of Jakarta entitled Jakarta Celebration on Bidadari Island, Thousand Islands.

In his remarks, Anies mentioned the reason he launched the Jakarta Celebration in the Thousand Islands to give a message that Jakarta is not only located in the mainland area of Java Island.

Anies also said that the Thousand Islands had a large enough opportunity for the application of the digital nomad concept, namely working from a moving location by utilizing technology.

"We want Jakarta to become a world city and we hope that new patterns of work can be facilitated. Usually digital nomads are new entities. This is unique. They work but are not limited by location. We want them to have high productivity and high mobility, so they can take advantage of the Thousand Islands," he said. Anies in the Thousand Islands, Tuesday, May 24.

In facilitating digital nomad activities, Anies said the DKI Provincial Government continues to accelerate the needs of digital nomad users in their activities and regional development.

These include providing fast internet access, access to safe and comfortable transportation, providing certainty of access to housing, ensuring basic needs such as clean water, food, and electricity are available, to ensuring adequate working facilities.

Furthermore, Anies said, Jakarta and Bodetabek are home to the largest startup ecosystem in Indonesia with around 471 startups or 39.9 percent in Indonesia.

Thus, it has great potential to develop a digital ecosystem. Access to digital infrastructure in Jakarta is very adequate compared to other regions in Indonesia with more than 9,000 free WiFi access points for all through the JakWifi program.

"On the other hand, Jakarta has tremendous potential in the tourism sector and the archipelagic region, which can still be developed specifically to become global class tourism, by bringing the digital nomad concept," Anies explained.
