Minister Of Agriculture Syahrul: Diseases Of The Mouth And Nails Of Animals Are Not Contagious To Humans, But....

JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo said he was optimistic that the treatment of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in livestock could be overcome soon.

He asked all parties to come down directly and be actively involved in suppressing the number of transmissions.

Syahrul said the Ministry of Agriculture invites to implement intellectual strategies as an acceleration step, implement management strategies as a strengthening step, and behavioral strategies as a joint step in eliminating PMK.

"So actually this FMD can be cured and not transmitted to humans, but we must be vigilant and continue to work. The most important thing is not to build panic because it is very dangerous," Syahrul said as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 18.

Based on the results of research and investigations so far, he continued, FMD is included in the category of animal diseases that are not harmful to human health.

The reason is that all parts of the meat in animals that are positive for FMD can be eaten through a predetermined procedure.

"Once again, FMD can be cured and is not dangerous if it is consumed by humans. Second, the Ministry of Agriculture together with 16 areas contaminated with FMD stated that they are ready to face the Eid of Sacrifice and even though there is FMD, there is no problem with the supply of cattle," he said.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also built a complaint post and a PMK crisis center for information and complaints related to the disease.

People who have animals with FMD symptoms can call 081286345622. This emergency response post is directly managed by the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture.

"Therefore, the ranks of the Ministry of Agriculture on standby 1 and across sectors under the Director General continue to work. Thank God the trend of distribution has decreased now," concluded Syahrul.
