Floods Hit 8 Villages In Southeast Aceh

BANDA ACEH - Eight gampongs (villages) in three sub-districts in Aceh Tenggara Regency, Aceh Province were flooded due to high-intensity rainfall in the local area, according to the Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA).

"The current condition is that water is still flooding residential areas," said BPBA Chief Executive Ilyas through the Data and Information Center (Pusdatin) in Banda Aceh, reported by Antara, Sunday, May 15 in the morning.

Ilyas said the flood due to high rainfall occurred on Saturday (14/5) at around 21.31 western Indonesia time.

The affected areas include Gampong Lawe Hijo, Gampong Kuning 1, Gampong Kuning 2 and Gampong Pinding in Bambel District.

Furthermore, Gampong Pasir Puntung, District Semadam, Gampong Lawe Loning District Babul Makmur and Gampong Lawe Dua and Gampong Sebudi Jaya District Bukit Tusam.

Ilyas said that high-intensity rainfall flushed most of the Southeast Aceh Regency, causing the Lawe Kinga river to increase.

"This caused the embankments of the Lawe Kinga and Lawe Pasar Puntung rivers to burst, which resulted in flooding of residential areas and national roads," said Ilyas.

Temporary data, he said, the impact was in the form of a national road submerged in mud, submerged residential areas, and a clogged Pasir Puntung bridge in the Semadam area.

"And the Kutacane-Medan national road in Desa Kuning 1 cannot be passed due to the water level being 90 centimeters," he said.

The Southeast Aceh BPBD has deployed a rapid reaction team (TRC) to the scene to conduct a rapid assessment, collect data and coordinate with BPJN 1 Aceh for the handling of the blocked bridge.

"The affected victims and refugees are still being collected," said Ilyas.
