Mouth-and-mouth Disease Attacks Animals In Lamongan, Regency Government Asks Residents Not To Panic

LAMONGAN - Oral and nail diseases attack split-hoofed animals such as cattle and goats in Lamongan Regency, East Java (East Java). The local government asked residents not to panic.

The Regent of Lamongan, Yuhronur Efendi, said the district government had made various efforts to anticipate the existence of the disease.

"We have prevented the entry of new cattle and the release of sick cattle. I hope the public remains calm and does not panic selling. Insha Allah, everything will be fine," said Yuhronur in his statement in Lamongan, Tuesday 10 May.

In Lamongan, according to the Antara report, this case began with the detection of cows in Pilanganom Hamlet, Balungwangi Village, Tikung District. These symptoms appear in newly purchased cows that appear hypersalivation, decreased appetite, panting, and slightly feverish body temperature.

The Lamongan Regency Government, he said, had carried out tracking and testing through the Lamongan Livestock and Animal Health Service team until May 6, and obtained the results that 4 of the 27 sub-districts in Lamongan were attacked by suspected PMK, namely Tikung, Kembangbahu, Sarirejo, and Turi sub-districts.

"The total population infected in Lamongan Regency is 215 from 23 breeders," he said.

In addition, education has also been carried out for farmers to hold sick cattle from being sold, carry out symptomatic and supportive treatment in cases, and conduct cross-sectoral collaboration.

"Currently, while the animal market is closed, this is intended to avoid further transmission in Lamongan," said Yuhronur.

Previously, during a recent visit to Lamongan, the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa admitted that the affected provincial and regional governments were coordinating with the director general of animal husbandry and animal health, pusvetma (veterinary pharmacy center), and BBVET (Veterinary Center).

As well as taking action on animals with confirmed FMD by giving injections of drugs in the form of analgesics, antibiotics, and vitamins.

"The approach is relatively similar to controlling COVID-19, so those who are found to be positive for PMK must be isolated. Livestock from areas confirmed by PMK should not go out, and do not enter outside, while the treatment process is ongoing," said Khofifah.

Khofifah added, the process of spreading FMD is through wind, carbon, so that the wind radius allows it to spread quickly.

In addition, it is also related to mucus, so it has the potential for 1 cage to be infected. Therefore, he called for the temporary animal market to be closed.

Regarding the viral vaccine that was used in 1986, the provincial government has submitted a request to determine the status of an outbreak (plague) in four districts in order to submit a request for a vaccine through the World Animal Health Organization (OIE).
