Beating The United States, Costa Rica Still Fails To Qualify Directly To The 2022 World Cup Finals

JAKARTA - Costa Rica had to bury their dream of directly qualifying for the 2022 World Cup finals. A 2-0 win over the United States in the last match of the third round of the CONCACAF qualifying zone, Thursday, March 31, the morning of Indonesian Western Time (WIB), was not enough to send them straight to Qatar.

With this result, Costa Rica remains in fourth place in the standings with 25 points. Their points are the same as the United States who finished third, but lost in terms of goal productivity.

Costa Rica also had to go through the play-offs between the confederations against New Zealand. Bill Tuiloma got a ticket to the playoffs after a 5-0 win over Solomon Islands in the Oceania zone qualifying final.
