MUI Brings Good News To Merchants: No Prohibition Of Selling During The Day During Ramadan 2022 And Sweeping Is Prohibited

JAKARTA - Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Amirsyah Tambunan stated that food stalls can still earn a living during Ramadan 2022. However, there needs to be arrangements so that economic activities can continue.

"If there is a term that everything closes during Ramadan, which one is closed, it must be clear," said Amirsyah when contacted from Jakarta, Wednesday, March 30.

Amirsyah said the emergence of traders during Ramadan is actually good. This condition will revive the economy, especially micro and small businesses, which have been sluggish due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, he also asked certain parties not to do sweeping on places to eat that are open during the day during Ramadan.

Business owners must respect people who are fasting, at the same time fasting people must also respect each other.

"Moreover, there is sweeping, don't do it. In my opinion, a strategy is sought, the right momentum is created so that on the one hand it doesn't disturb people who are breaking their fast. On the other hand, food vendors can run as expected," he said, as reported by Antara.

While specifically for entertainment venues, he appealed to temporarily close them. "It is better to eliminate entertainment venues because they focus on carrying out worship in the month of Ramadan," he said.

Contacted separately, Deputy General Chairperson of MUI Anwar Abbas said that so far, food stalls have often closed their places to eat using curtains during Ramadan, so that people who are fasting will not be tempted by the food menu in the stall.

He views that the experience of restaurant managers in modifying their business premises during Ramadan is wise and wise in order to respect those who fast.

"Although during Ramadan, there are times when Muslims are unable to fast, such as travelers, sick or during their postpartum period," he said.
