5.3 M-magnitude Earthquake Occurs In Southwest Tanggamus Lampung
LAMPUNG - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 occurred in the southwest of Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province, on Wednesday at 14:44 p.m.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the epicenter was in the sea at a depth of 10 km, approximately 89 km southwest of Tanggamus.
The exact point of the earthquake is at coordinates 6.21 degrees south latitude and 104.35 degrees east longitude.
Citing Antara, the BMKG said this earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami.
The tremors caused by the earthquake were felt on a scale of II MMI in Tanggamus, III MMI on the West Coast, and II to III MMI in Liwa.
On the MMI II scale the vibrations are felt by several people and cause light objects that are hanging to sway and on the MMI III scale the vibrations are felt real in the house, it feels as if a truck is passing.
BMKG advised residents to be aware of the possibility of aftershocks.
