The Number Of Active Cases Of COVID-19 In Riau Islands Is Only 851 People

RIAU ISLANDS - The Riau Islands Province COVID-19 Task Force said the number of active COVID-19 cases in the region was only 851 people.

The Head of the Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Eko Sumbaryadi, said that the currently active cases of COVID-19 in Riau Islands had dropped dramatically compared to last month, which reached more than 4,000 people.

"Active cases of COVID-19 in seven regencies and cities in the region are decreasing on average every day", said the Regional Secretary for Riau Islands in Tanjungpinang, Tuesday, March 22.

The Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force recorded active cases of COVID-19 spread in Batam 93 people, Tanjungpinang 268 people, Bintan 205 people, Karimun 147 people, Anambas Islands 26 people, Lingga 23 people, and Natuna 89 people. Active cases of COVID-19 in Batam are much reduced compared to the month which was close to 2,000 people.

"The lowest active cases of COVID-19 were in Lingga and the highest in Tanjungpinang. Even though from January to mid-March 2022, the highest active cases occurred in Batam", he said.

Eko said that the number of Riau Islands residents who died from COVID-19 increased by eight people to 1,878 people, spread over 901 people in Batam, 428 people in Tanjungpinang, 197 people in Bintan, 174 people in Karimun, 47 people in Anambas, 87 people in Lingga, and 44 people in Natuna.

"In recent days there have been no cases of death due to COVID-19", he said.

The COVID-19 Handling Task Force has designated Batam, Anambas, and Lingga Islands as Yellow Zones or low risk of transmission, while Bintan, Tanjungpinang, Natuna, and Karimun as Orange Zones or moderate risk of transmission.

"We urge the public to consistently apply the health protocols", he said.
