De Gea Says After Manchester United Out Of Champions League: A Very Disappointing Day

JAKARTA - Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea expressed his disappointment after his team faced Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the 2021/2022 Champions League last 16, Wednesday, March 16 early morning WIB.

De Gea was disappointed because Manchester United lost 0-1 at Old Trafford Stadium as well as being eliminated in the hunt for the Big Ear trophy.

De Gea said his team did not perform optimally in the two legs that were lived. So that this second match was actually a disappointing day for all parts of the team.

"So we weren't at our best, to be honest. But it's a very disappointing day for us," De Gea told the club's official website.

De Gea admits, this defeat is difficult to accept. Especially with the way they only got a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Madrid.

For De Gea, Manchester United should be able to win the second leg against Atletico Madrid. But in fact the Red Devils were defeated 0-1 through a single goal by Renan Lodi.

"But we didn't win the game and we're out again. Another bad year for us so it's been very, very difficult," De Gea added.

The Spanish goalkeeper explained, moments after scoring a goal, Atletico Madrid appeared with a formation piling their players in their own defense area.

According to him, there are 10 Atletico Madrid players who are defending and they are doing well. The situation made it difficult for Ralf Rangnick's side to find an equalizer despite trying until the last time.

"They are a team that has a lot of experience. They know how to play this game, the Champions League game, a tight match," explained De Gea.

"They scored and defended, so it was very difficult for us to create chances, we didn't create many. This is football, this is the Champions League and we are out of one of the most important competitions and so we are very, very sad, " concluded De Gea.
