Only One Way Can Make Khabib Nurmagomedov Return To UFC, Here's The Scenario
JAKARTA - Hoping for Khabib Nurmagomedov to return to the octagon seems still only a dream for UFC fans. The reason is, at this time he is only focused on undergoing a behind-the-scenes role by bringing Islam Makhachev to the lightweight belt title fight.
Last weekend, Makhachev confirmed that UFC president Dana White revealed to Nurmagomedov that Makhachev would be fighting for the next title.
But, what fans really want is Nurmagomedov's return to the octagon. The thing is, when he fought Justin Gaetjhe right after his father died, he vowed never to fight again.
However, we all know there will always be a 'bloodbath' between Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. McGregor is likely to get a new title fight and could face Nurmagomedov's Makhachev.
During a small talk with UFC reporter Megan Olivi, Nurmagomedov repeated that he would not be returning to the lightweight division. However, Makhachev joked that the weight gain might mean Nurmagomedov could return to the UFC as a welterweight fighter.
Khabib reacted to this joke by saying this: "He came to me, he came too close and said 'Hey, are you light?'" he said with a smile. "Something like this, you know? Of course, now I'm big because I haven't fought in almost two years. I try to enjoy it, I try to enjoy it. But every day I train, spend time in the gym. But why should I (in class) light? Done."
Despite Nurmagomedov's repeated repetitions of not returning to the octagon, there are scenarios where real fan fiction is being created. There are many Twitter and Instagram accounts that issue false statements that paint an interesting picture.
Imagine Makhachev is the fighter McGregor is fighting for, Nurmagomedov will be there watching everything. If we're being honest about the current landscape, no fighter right now will beat Makhachev but imagine McGregor doing it. It would be the perfect excuse for Khabib to return for one more title fight, the rematch McGregor has been waiting for.
However, all this is just speculation, it is unlikely that McGregor will return to the top level as before.
