Bobby Nasution Doesn't Want Revitalization Of Medan Merdeka Square To Lose Traders

MEDAN - The Medan City Government, North Sumatra, admitted that it is preparing to relocate traders who have been carrying out economic activities in Merdeka Square following the revitalization this year.

"We have planned the revitalization of Medan Merdeka Square since yesterday. We don't want any residents to be harmed," said Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 18.

His party will approach a number of tenants, including Merdeka Walk, to be relocated to another place, so that there is no commotion.

Likewise, used book traders who have been carrying out economic activities in the historic field area which has an area of 4.88 hectares.

"We have prepared a revitalization plan for Merdeka Square, including a budget for the initial phase of Rp. 100 billion," said Bobby Nasution.

The Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, admitted that until now the revitalization of Merdeka Square is still at the discussion stage, and is looking for solutions for traders.

Governor Edy explained that strong coordination is needed from all parties to realize Merdeka Square as a green open space and cultural heritage.

"We are looking for a place. We are still processing it, because the place will be rebuilt, so that traders can carry out their activities again," he said.

"Therefore, the coordination must be strong to find the right solution for all parties," explained Gubsu Edy when chairing a meeting to discuss the plan to relocate the Merdeka Square merchant kiosks at the North Sumatra Governor's Office, Medan, Wednesday, February 16.
