Maid In Singapore Steals Employer's Chanel Bag And Tiffany & Co Ring

JAKARTA - A household maid from the Philippines, Putri Meneses Joy Domingo who works in Singapore actually has a good employer. But instead he stole his employer's Chanel Bag and Tiffany & Co Ring.

The Chanel bag and Tiffany & Co ring were then sold by Domingo and are estimated to sell for more than 30 thousand Singapore dollars, as quoted by Channel News Asia, Monday, February 14.

She confessed that he sold the goods because he needed money for his son's operations in the Philippines. The money was also used to pay off debts from borrowing money from friends in Singapore.

When she was arrested, 28-year-old Domingo went to live in a hostel awaiting his court case. She stole again, this time from his roommate, a fellow stranger.

Domingo was eventually sentenced to one year and two weeks in prison. Domingo, who has been in custody since December, pleaded guilty.

Domingo started working for a 41-year-old South Korean woman in her condominium unit in central Singapore from May 2021.

Her employer kept assorted jewelery and handbags in an unlocked cupboard in her bedroom, which was never locked, prosecutors said.

Domingo is tasked with caring for his employer's nine-year-old daughter, preparing meals, driving her to and from school, and doing household chores.

She earns S$750 a month and has Sundays off. She slept in her own room in the apartment and was provided with a bed with blankets and pillows, and adequate sleep, rest and food, prosecutors said.

In his first month working for her employer, Domingo asked for more money, and her employer gave her an additional S$100 on top of her salary.

Domingo then asked for more money, and his employer gave her an additional S$200 in July 2021, and an additional S$300 in August 2021.

Despite this, Domingo steals from her employer when she is not at home, and when her daughter is at school. Between May 2021 and August 2021, she broke into an unlocked closet and stole a Chanel bag and a S$30.705 Tiffany & Co ring more than three times. The most expensive bag is S$8.500.

Once she stole the items, Domingo would immediately leave the unit to sell them. She said she needed the money for her son's surgery back home, as well as to pay off debts he incurred from borrowing money from friends in Singapore.

Domingo sold some of the bags to his friends or acquaintances, lying to them that she had been gifted by her Indian girlfriend who worked as an IT employee at Chanel. She sold the ring to the shop in Lucky Plaza.
