Inviting President Biden To Visit Ukraine, President Zelenskiy: It Is Important To Stabilize The Situation
JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy invited US President Joe Biden to visit Ukraine soon when they spoke by telephone on Sunday, President Zelenskiy's office said.
Tensions have been rising for weeks, as the addition of Russian troops near Ukraine led Washington to say an invasion could occur at any time. Moscow denies planning it.
"I am sure that your arrival in Kyiv in the coming days, which is very important to stabilize the situation, will be a strong signal and contribute to de-escalation," the Presidential Office quoted President Zelenskiy as telling President Biden.
Meanwhile, there was no immediate comment from the White House regarding President Zelenskiy's Office statement regarding the invitation to visit.
Separately, CNN quoted an unnamed Ukrainian official as saying there was no positive response from President Biden to the idea.
Reading the phone call from Ukraine led President Zelenskiy to say Ukraine understands the threat it faces and is ready to face any scenario, while thanking the United States for its support.
