Flash Flood, One Student Of Community Service Program Dies In River Flow

PONTIANAK - A Pontianak Tanjungpura University (Untan) student who was carrying out an Actual Field Experience (KKN) in Bagak Sahwa Village, East Singkawang District, Singkawang City, West Kalimantan was found dead after being carried away by a river current.

Quoted by Antara, Singkawang Police Chief Grand Commissioner Adjutant Prasetiyo Adhi Wibowo said that the accident occurred because at the same time there was a flash flood in the Bagak Sahwa River, Tuesday, February 1 afternoon at around 15.15 western Indonesia time.

The student who drowned was named Aulia Rahma. The victim is one of the participants who took part in KKN in Singkawang City since early January 2022. The student's body has been taken to Abdul Aziz Hospital Singkawang.

"The victim took a bath with 11 colleagues. During the flash flood, they tried to save themselves. However, one of them, the victim, was dragged by a very strong current," said the Police Chief in his statement, Wednesday, February 2.

When a search was carried out by his party, the victim was found about 1 km away from the location where they showered.

"When found, the condition of the victim was unconscious, while several wounds were found on the head, then when examined it was found that there was no pulse anymore," he said.

Even when she was at the Abdul Aziz Hospital Singkawang, the doctor said that the victim had died.

In addition, there is also one other student who suffered a head injury and is currently receiving treatment at the ER Abdul Aziz Hospital Singkawang.

"Only one person was dragged, namely a student who died. Meanwhile, one student who suffered injuries to the head was not dragged away, because she had time to save himself, but suffered a collision on the riverbank," he concluded.
