Malioboro Street Vendors Are Asked Not To Worry About The Placement Location
YOGYAKARTA - The Yogyakarta City Government asked Malioboro street vendors not to worry about the location of the stalls that will be occupied because all locations are considered strategic and are equipped with good access.
"If you look at the placement location, placing it in any stall will not be a problem because the access is good and wide," said Deputy Mayor of Yogyakarta Heroe Poerwadi in Yogyakarta, as reported by Antara, Thursday, January 27.
Around 1,800 Malioboro street vendors (PKL) will be arranged in two placement locations, namely on Teras Malioboro 1 or the former Indra Cinema and Terrace Malioboro 2 or on the land of the former DIY Tourism Office.
At Teras Malioboro 2, there are even two doors that will be used as access for visitors or tourists, namely from Malioboro Street and from Mataram Street.
Tourists who come from the north can enter Malioboro Terrace 2 to shop for souvenirs or souvenirs, while tourists from the south can enter Malioboro Terrace 1.
"So, there are still souvenir sellers in Malioboro. By gathering in one location, it will make it easier for buyers to shop,” he said.
The local government has also prepared various programs to introduce the two placement locations while at the same time attracting tourists to come with art and cultural performances.
"For a certain time, art and cultural stage will be prepared which is expected to help increase the crowd," he said.

Nevertheless, Heroe believes that if tourists really want to buy souvenirs sold at Malioboro street vendors, they will definitely come to shop even though the location is moved. "The move also remains in Malioboro, so there is no need to worry," he said.
As for the technical placement of street vendors to new locations, Heroe said that it is possible to do it by lottery according to the proposal of most traders.
“There was a suggestion for the community to arrange the placement. But there may be discomfort or a sense of injustice if the community puts it down. That's why a lottery is held for each trader," he said.
Traders who will occupy the relocation location are traders who have been included in the local government data and are members of the community or association.
After the street vendors are arranged in a new location, continued Heroe, the pedestrians on Malioboro Street are fully the rights of pedestrians so that tourists will have more freedom to enjoy the atmosphere of Malioboro.
