UK Prepares 175 Million US Dollars for Zero Emission Vehicles and Automated Mobility

LONDON - Britain is preparing nearly 130 million pounds or around 175 million US dollars to accelerate the development of zero-emission vehicle technology and automated mobility. The funding was announced as Britain targets a halt to the sale of new cars that only use petrol or diesel by 2030.

Anadolu Agency quoted Monday, August 10, saying that almost 65 million pounds sterling or about 88 million US dollars came from the government. The rest came from industry investment.

Of the government funds, almost 50 million pounds sterling or around 67.4 million US dollars will be given to vehicle manufacturers and research partners.

The funds are used to develop zero-emission vehicle technology as well as expand its application.

The British government has also prepared 17 million pounds sterling or around 23 million US dollars for nine connected and automated mobility projects.

The project includes sensor technology, brake-by-wire systems, and artificial intelligence-based simulations.

Brake-by-wire is a braking system that passes the brake command through an electronic signal.

"Britain created the modern automotive industry, and we are determined to ensure that the next generation of vehicles are also designed and manufactured here," said Industry Minister Blair McDougall in a statement.

Britain plans to stop selling new cars that only use petrol or diesel by 2030.

By 2035, all new cars will be required to be zero-emission vehicles.
