Google released Gemini Report: Southeast Asia 2026, which revealed that Gemini adoption in the Southeast Asian region broke records and was the fastest compared to other Google apps.
Based on the report, of Gemini's 900 million monthly active users globally, the younger generation or users under the age of 25 years old are the main drivers (40%) of Gemini adoption in the Southeast Asian region.
Users who were born in the digital era (digital natives) were recorded as more often making requests, having longer conversations, and writing more detailed prompts than other age groups.
The ability to understand local languages is also one of the main factors for Gemini's growth. Almost 70% of prompts in Southeast Asia are sent using the native language of each country, with Vietnam reaching 89%, Thailand 87%, and Indonesia 84%.
Based on the Southeast Asia Holistic Evaluation of Language Models (SEA-HELM) from AI Singapore, Gemini is the large language model (LLM) with the best performance for Southeast Asian languages.
In terms of usage, about 75% of demand to Gemini comes from mobile devices. Users are also increasingly utilizing multimodal features, such as voice, photos, and videos. More than 40% of prompts are sent using a combination of these media.
Meanwhile, more than 10% only use voice through features such as Gemini Live to help daily activities, ranging from translating road signs to analyzing documents directly.
The report also shows that Gemini is increasingly being used as a creative partner. About 40% of the incoming queries ask AI to generate new content, such as images, music, videos, and documents.
In fact, over the past year, users in Southeast Asia have generated around 5 billion images using the Nano Banana model and almost 1 million songs through the Lyria 3 music maker model.
"We are very proud to see that Gemini has become the AI of choice for many users across Southeast Asia. People are not only adapting to Gemini, they are using it in their own way," said Sapna Chadha, Vice President for Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier, Google.
The English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and French versions are automatically generated by the AI. So there may still be inaccuracies in translating, please always see Indonesian as our main language. (system supported by DigitalSiber.id)
