Apple Produces More IPhone 17 In India, Not China

JAKARTA Apple has decided to divert its newest cellphone production site. The iPhone 17 for consumers in the US will now be produced more in India than in China.

In line with these changes, for the first time, Apple will send its newest iPhone lineup from India when the device launches. This change was first reported by Bloomberg.

This move is part of Apple's strategy to reduce its dependence on manufacturing in China. The company wants to move more iPhone production to India to face an increase in US rates.

In addition to the enhanced production of the iPhone 17 in India, Apple is also reportedly working on the next generation of the iPhone 16E. This device is also planned to be produced in India.

This transfer of production in India is the best step for Apple even though Trump imposed a tariff of 50 percent for many imports from India. The reason is, Apple's export of iPhones to the US from India has been exempted from tariffs.

For now, Apple is focused on producing its devices in India, but most of the iPhone components are still produced in China. After production, all of these components were sent to India for final assembly.

Apple estimates that it will pay a rate of USD 1.1 billion (IDR 17.8 trillion) this quarter. However, Bloomberg reports suggest that production from India could help reduce the rate.

Apple has announced a large manufacturing investment in the US. The company invested US$100 billion (Rp1.6 quadrillion) recently. This is an addition to an investment of US$500 billion (Rp8.1 quadrillion) announced earlier this year.
