Seagate: AI Encourages Rise In Data Requests, Increased Energy Challenges

JAKARTA - Seagate Technology Holdings plc released its latest global report that contains increasing challenges for data center providers, as artificial intelligence (AI) technology demands increase.

This report found that AI triggered a wave of data storage requests, of which 94.5 percent of respondents reported an increase in data storage needs, and 97 percent anticipated AI growth to further affect storage demand.

However, there are also various main obstacles in encouraging desire in data centers, such as high energy consumption (53.5%), raw material needs (49.5%), physical space constraints (45.5%), infrastructure costs (28.5%), and acquisition costs (27%). ).

"The data center is under intense scrutiny, not only because it supports the workload of modern AI, but also because it is one of the most intensive digital economy sectors in energy use," said Jason Feist, deputy president director of Cloud Marketing senior Seagate.

According to him, decisions regarding the use of energy, use of space, use of raw materials, and infrastructure investment now have an impact on business performance and environmental results.

On the other hand, as the organization expands its data capabilities, Seagate says that it faces three options, namely increasing efficiency in existing infrastructure, expanding the dimension of the data center, or migrating workload to the cloud.

To support industry in this transition, the Seagate report also outlines three pillars of strategy to build a more sustainable data future, such as technological innovation, which includes increased computing power, storage density, and adoption of energy-efficient technologies such as liquid cooling and advanced HVAC systems.

The second pillar is commitment to the extension and circularity of the device's life cycle, through repair, reuse, and maintenance to reduce electronic waste.

The third pillar emphasizes the importance of sharing responsibilities throughout the ecosystem from vendors to cloud service providers to reduce emissions in all scopes (Corruption 1, 2, and 3). Collaboration and transparent reporting are the keys to creating a more environmentally friendly and sustainable data center.
