Discord Sued New Jersey On Charges Of Dangering Children

JAKARTA New Jersey, the state of the United States, sued Discord on charges of business practices that endanger children. The platform used by gamers is considered 'tricking and acting unfairly'.

Based on The Verge report, the lawsuit was filed on April 17, 2025, highlighting platform policies. Discord is accused of not protecting its young users to the maximum of predators or content containing violence.

Discord is also said to be negligent about the age of its users. The platform does prohibit users under the age of 13 from creating accounts, but they do not provide an age verification tool to determine the age of their users.

"Everything Discord does to verify the age of new users is to require users to enter a date of birth meaning that each 8 year old child can access the app by simply saying that they are 13 years old," the lawsuit reads.

In addition, the message scan feature on Discord is also not functioning properly. Although Discord filters incoming messages automatically, the platform does not scan incoming messages from friends so inappropriate messages can still be received.

This is not the first time Discord has been sued for a young user protection issue. After accepting the lawsuit, Discord immediately implements a facial scanning feature or user ID to access sensitive content.

The feature is still experimental, but the company is already proud of the launch of its feature pilot. Discord spokesman bilang Susi has also responded to New Jersey's lawsuit by saying they will defend themselves.

"We are shocked by the announcement that New Jersey has filed action against Discord today."

"We deny the claims in the lawsuit and hope to defend the action in court," said Susi.
