JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is currently drafting a Government Regulation (RPP) on Child Protection in the Digital Room, related to increasing cyber risks for children.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, revealed that there are at least three main pillars in the RPP Child Protection in the Digital Room, the first is age verification and ownership of digital accounts.
In this rule, digital platforms will be required to implement an age verification mechanism to ensure children do not access content that is not age-appropriate.
Second, limiting risky content, where the government will tighten surveillance of harmful content, including pornography, violence, online gambling, and child exploitation.
The last pillar is the increase in digital literacy. Komdigi emphasized the importance of parental assistance and education for children will be the main key in building a healthy digital culture.
The Minister of Trade also emphasized that regulations alone are not enough without strong digital education and literacy.
