Following Google, TikTok Also Supports Regulations On Age Restrictions For Children Playing Social Media

JAKARTA - Social media platform TikTok supports Indonesian government regulations through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs regarding restrictions on the use of social media for children.

In fact, Helena Lersch as VP Global Public Policy TikTok who was present at the meeting with the Minister of Communication and Trade Meutya Hafid also said TikTok already has its own system to limit children's access to social media.

"We really care about this topic from a personal perspective. From the company's perspective, we want to do the right thing here," said Helena in a meeting that took place on Friday, February 21 at the Kemkomdigi office, Jakarta.

Helena explained that TikTok does not provide the ability for users aged 13-15 years to receive direct messages and also by default to lock the account or be private.

Thus, there are several features that users at that age cannot use. This system is also supported by a family pairing feature, where parents or guardians can control their child's activities on the platform.

"We also have technology that identifies 13-year-old users proactively. There is a special program that we will launch in Indonesia next week called the STEM Feed," he said.

TikTok's STEM Feed will later display content related to education, such as science, technology, mathematics, and also engineering or engineering.

Meanwhile, Minister of Trade Meutya Hafid appreciated TikTok's commitment to business compliance with regulations in Indonesia. Thus, TikTok followed Google's statement of support for the regulation on the age limitation of the Ministry of Communication and Industry.

"Mother (Meutya) said that if it is good, positive, we will certainly appreciate it, we will support it. Mother must appreciate TikTok," said Director General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Communication and Industry Alexander Sabar to the media.
