JAKARTA - Google has started rolling out new features that allow users to search for open tabs and sync Tab Groups on Chrome for Android.

In the latest update, users will see a new search bar above the view of the grid tab open in Chrome. This pill-shaped bar remains at the top of the screen to make it easier to search.

When tapped, the user will be directed to a search screen that displays the last "Tab is opened." By entering the keyword, Chrome will display results from the open tab, as well as from "Bookmark," "History," and "Search on the web." Users only need to tap on search results to open the tab. This feature is also available in Incognito mode, while the desktop version of Chrome already has a similar function.

This tab search starts rolling out on Chrome 133 for Android in a fairly unique release on Friday afternoon and evening. If this feature hasn't appeared on your device yet, try to force stop the Chrome app and reopen.

Synchronization Of Tab Groups On Android Chrome

In addition to tab searches, Google also introduces Tab Group synchronization. At the top of the grid tab display, users will see a new icon in the form of 2times2. This icon features a tab group available from other devices that log in with the same Chrome account, including from the desktop.

In the Settings > Advanced > Tab menu, there is the option "Open the tab group from other devices automatically." This setting is enabled by default, but can be turned off if the user prefers a specific Tab Group for each device.

New Tab Management Feature

In addition, Android Chrome also introduced a grouping of unused tabs within a certain time into the "Inactive Tab" section. By default, unused tabs for 21 days will be moved to this section, but users can set the duration to 7 or 14 days, or disable this feature completely.

Other additional features include:

Archive duplicate tabs: All the same tabs will be archived automatically, unless the last tab is used.

Closed after 60 days: The 60-day inactive tab will be closed automatically, but can still be found in History.

With this update, Google Chrome for Android makes it easier to manage tabs, especially for users who often open multiple pages at the same time.
