JAKARTA - Actress Scarlett Johansson urged US legislators to set limits on artificial intelligence (AI) after her illegal deepfake video went viral. The actress called for regulations to ban deepfake videos made using AI, stating:
"It's scary that the US government remains silent and slow in passing laws that protect its citizens from the increasingly real danger of AI."
The deepfake video also features more than a dozen other Jewish celebrities.
Earlier this week, a viral video on social media showed AI Johansson wearing a white t-shirt with an image of his hand brandishing his middle finger. In the middle of the hand there is Bintang Daud, as well as the words "Kanye" underneath.
Apart from Johansson, the video also features AI versions of several well-known Jewish celebrities, such as Drake, Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Spielberg, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Black, Mila Kunis, and Lenny Kravitz. The video ends with a message:
'That's Enough' Joins The Resistance Against Antisemitism
In a statement to People, Johansson condemned the misuse of AI, regardless of the message he was carrying.
I am a Jewish woman who does not tolerate antisemitism or hate speech in any form. However, I also believe that the potential for hate speech propagated by AI is far more dangerous than anyone responsible for it. We must criticize AI abuse, whatever the message is, or we will lose control of reality."

Johansson Has Been A Victim Of AI Before
This is not the first time Scarlett Johansson has been a victim of AI technology. In 2023, she threatened to take legal action against a company that used her AI resemblance in unlicensed advertising.
In fact, in May last year, he admitted to being "shocked and angry" after hearing a voice similar to his voice in OpenAI's AI ChatGPT assistant.
Meanwhile, although the US has introduced a bill against sexually explicit deepfakes last year, little progress has been seen in AI regulations more broadly.
AI technology has made it easier to create deepfake videos. If regulations are not implemented immediately, it is not impossible that this threat will be even greater in the future.
