Instagram Youth Accounts Coming To Indonesia, This Is A Meta-Applied Limit

JAKARTA After introducing Instagram youth accounts at the end of last year, Meta will now expand its account category to the Asia Pacific region. Indonesia is included in the launch area list.

Instagram's teenage account is a new way to protect teens from predators or other malicious accounts. This account is more limited by Meta and parents having greater control over teens' accounts on the social media platform.

"We are aware that parents are worried that their teens will see inappropriate adult content or content. Therefore, we are tightening regulations on the type of content that teenage users can see in our application," Meta said in a statement received by VOI.

Once this feature is officially available in Indonesia, the Instagram account owned by children under the age of 16 will automatically become a teenage account. Whenever the account owner wants to relax the regulations in it, they need parental permission.

Limitations on Instagram Youth Accounts

There are many limits that Meta will set on Instagram teens' accounts. When children under the age of 16 register a new account on the platform, their account will be set as private by default.

That way, teenage accounts need to accept requests for friendship from new followers. This regulation also applies to teenagers under the age of 18, whether they have just created an account or who have had an account for a long time.

In addition, messages received by teenage accounts are also more limited. They can only receive messages from accounts that are followed or follow each other. Control sensitive content is also more noticed by Meta so that Instagram youth accounts cannot see sensitive content.

Content containing violence and promotion of beauty procedures, such as facial plastic surgery, will be removed from Explore and Reels. Teenage Accounts will automatically activate Sleep Mode from 22.00 to 07.00 WIB every day.
