Apple Denies Agreeing To Pornography Applications At IOS Alternative Application Stores

JAKARTA Hot Tub became the first pornographic application available on the AltStore, an alternative application store in the European Union. Even though it has gone through Apple's Notary process, this application has never been approved by the company.

Apple said it was worried about the risk of user safety on the pornographic app. The iPhone manufacturer does not want to agree to the presence of its app on the AltStore, but the European Commission's policy forced Apple to pass the app.

This statement was made after AltStore claimed that Hot Tub was Apple's 'first pornographic application'. These words are considered inappropriate even though the applications distributed outside the App Store have gone through Apple's Notary process first.

"We are deeply concerned about the security risks posed by this type of hardcore porn app for EU users, especially children," Apple said, quoted by MacRumors on Tuesday, February 4. "We certainly don't approve of this app and will never offer it on our App Store."

Under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple only has a little control over the types of applications distributed through the AltStore. Apple's Notary Process only checks its application problems, such as malware, fraud, and other issues.

"Actually, we are required by the European Commission to allow it to be distributed by market operators such as AltStore and Epic who may not have the same concerns as us about user security," Apple explained.

Apple notaries do not limit application content so AltStore could offer applications containing pornography, hate speech, or even drug and alcohol references. Even though it has no control, Apple has discussed applications with the European Commission.

Complaints about Hot Tub have been filed since last December, according to the company's confession. However, until now, the European Commission has not taken any action. In fact, applications like this not only threaten security, but also harm Apple's ecosystem.
