JAKARTA – A car manufacturer from South Korea, Hyundai is reportedly planning to assemble its first Creta car in Indonesia. This was conveyed by Hyundai on its official website on Friday, October 22, 2021.

Currently, the Creta is one of the best-selling cars made by Hyundai in the world. Hyundai itself stated that the SUV will be developed for the Indonesian market share with a number of additional innovations such as a newer design and various new features.

"This SUV will also be produced locally in Indonesia, at Hyundai's first factory in Southeast Asia," Hyundai said on its official website.

In addition to the announcement of the plan, Hyundai also shared a number of sketches of the Creta including the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The sketch shows the appearance of a car that has a modern design. The vehicle with a capacity of 5 passengers has already debuted in China and India.

On the other hand, rumors also circulated that the Creta to be assembled and marketed in Indonesia was a 7-passenger version. This is intended to compete with SUVs that were first in Indonesia such as the Toyota Rush, Daihatsu Terios, and others.

"Hyundai's commitment as a game-changer in the automotive industry is our motivation in providing superior products and services to Indonesian customers," said President Director of Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID), SungJong Ha.

SungJong explained that Creta will have strong characteristics and will be designed according to the needs of Indonesian consumers.

"Hyundai Creta is a product with the hallmark of Hyundai, which is full of innovation and is specifically designed to meet the needs and modern lifestyles of the Indonesian people," he added.

Previously, COO of Hyundai Motor Asia Pacific, Lee Kang Hyun, confirmed that the Hyundai factory located in Bekasi will produce one Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) model in 2021. Next year, Hyundai will release two ICE models and one electric car produced in the country.
