JAKARTA - The combination of a folding device between a cellphone and a tablet, Microsoft's Surface Duo 2, has just launched. By bringing a number of features and other major changes from its predecessor.

Equipped with two 5.8-inch AMOLED screens that can be used for playing games, multitasking and other activities. Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, users can also perform activities on both screens at once.

When fully opened, the entire screen size becomes 8.3 inches. Microsoft has combined two panels with hinges to create a device that allows users not only to use both screens at the same time, but also to move apps and content seamlessly between them.

The first-generation Surface Duo made a splash thanks to its unique design. But having no exterior screen at all, now the Surface Duo 2 has a piece of screen called the Glance Bar, to show notifications when the phone is closed.

The Surface Duo 2 already runs Android 11, making it stand out the most among Surface products that run mostly Windows. As Microsoft claims, the Surface Duo 2 differs from its predecessor by adding 5G support (mmWave and sub6 speeds) as well as NFC for contactless payments.

The camera sector has also been significantly upgraded, with a triple-lens array of 12MP wide, 12MP telephoto, and 16MP ultra-wide, replacing the single lens found in the last model. It is also capable of recording video up to 4K at 60 frames per second.

The Surface Duo 2 is also supported by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC, the most recent flagship chipset which is also embedded in the Samsung Galaxy S21 and ASUS ROG 5 series. This foldable phone has 8GB RAM and storage options of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB.

One final addition on the network side is the inclusion of WiFi 6 support, so if the user is using a WiFi 6 router at home, then he or she may get additional internet speed from the Surface Duo 2.
