Launching Bitcoin.com, the man was responsible for the theft of a crypto mining machine. The mining equipment is estimated to be worth 1.6 million rubles, about 22,000 US dollars (Rp314 million). As a result of this action, the perpetrator was sentenced to three years in prison.

Thieves managed to break into a garage, where the crypto mining equipment was located, in February. Then the perpetrators try to mine the coins themselves. But he failed to set the mining equipment. This was acknowledged by the perpetrator in court.

Admitting his guilt, the Zavolzsky District Court sentenced him to three years in prison with probation. The mining rig that has been stolen by the perpetrators has reportedly been returned to its owner.

Crypto mining activity has grown in popularity in recent years. Therefore, miners usually store their mining machines in the garage or in the basement. Mining has become a promising source of additional income.

However, crypto mining activities require high-power computing devices. The price is also quite expensive. Because of the expensive equipment, the theft of mining machines is increasing in Russia.

According to local media reports Kurskie Izvestia, last August there had been the theft of six rigs with 30 VGA in Kursk. The crypto mining machine is worth more than 4 million rubles or about 55 thousand dollars (Rp. 785 million). The perpetrators were reportedly sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Forklog also reported a similar incident in Irkutsk in June. Authorities have arrested a 21-year-old man after reportedly stealing mining hardware worth 120,000 rubles, or about $1,600. The police managed to arrest him after arresting a number of people who claimed responsibility for the theft of about two dozen mining rigs equivalent to 2 million rubles (Rp 389 million).
